Terms and Conditions of Rewards Catalogue

1. Eligibility

1.1 The HSBC Rewards Programme (“Programme”) is open to all primary Cardholders holding valid accounts of *HSBC credit cards (“HSBC Card”) as herein described (“Cardholder”).

(*HSBC Cards means any of the HSBC Visa / MasterCard Credit Cards except Corporate credit cards.)

1.2 The validity of all HSBC Cards issued by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Singapore Branch (“HSBC”) shall be determined by HSBC in its sole and absolute discretion.

1.3 Corporate/ Company Cardholders are not eligible to participate in the Programme unless otherwise stated.

1.4 For co-brand and affinity Cardholders, participation in the Programme is subject to the terms and conditions of their respective Cardholder agreements.

1.5 If a primary Cardholder voluntarily terminates his HSBC card account or is involuntarily terminated by HSBC, at any time for any reason, both the primary and supplementary Cardholders will be disqualified from participating in this Programme. Any unused HSBC Rewards point shall be automatically cancelled and no longer be available for redemption by the Cardholders. These unused HSBC Rewards points shall not be transferable to any other card account of the Cardholder.

1.6 If the supplementary Cardholder is terminated at any time for any reason, the primary Cardholder will not be disqualified from participating in the Programme.

1.7 Notwithstanding any matters stated herein, HSBC shall have the absolute discretion to determine which HSBC Card account shall be eligible to participate in the Programme and shall be entitled to disqualify any HSBC Card account and/ or account holder from participating in the Programme without subscribing any reasons thereof.

2. Issuance of Points

2.1 The Cardholder earns one Rewards point (“Point”) for every S$1 spent, excluding cash advances, finance charges and adjustments, on the credit card issued by HSBC.

2.2 The Cardholder earns one Rewards point (“Point”) for every US$0.60 spent, excluding cash advances, finance charges and adjustments, on the credit card (in US dollar) issued by HSBC.

2.3 Only Cardholders whose credit card accounts are valid and in good standing (as determined by HSBC) will be eligible to use their Points to obtain redemptions under the Programme.

2.4 Points awarded in the first year commencing from the date of issuance of the credit card as stated on the card (the “First Year”) shall be redeemable for a period of three years from the date of issuance of the credit card after which these Points will be reduced to zero. Points accumulated in each successive year after the first year shall be valid for a period of three years from the commencement of that year, after which the Points will be reduced to zero.

2.5 Rewards Points are not transferable but can be accummulated from primary cardholder’s various personal credit cards and supplementary cards (excluding corporate/ company cards) issued by HSBC.

2.6 The accumulation and usage of Points shall be specified in the monthly statement of account.

3. Premier Triple Rewards Programme

3.1 Premier Triple Rewards Programme is valid exclusively for transactions made on HSBC Premier MasterCard® credit card issued by HSBC. Transactions are to be made and posted into HSBC's credit card systems between 1 September 2007 and 31 December 2008. HSBC accepts no liability for any late submission of the purchases by merchants or whatsoever reasons.

3.2 Cardholders who hold an HSBC Premier MasterCard® (in Singapore dollar) will earn one Rewards point plus an additional two Rewards points for every S$1 spent. Cardholders who hold an HSBC Premier MasterCard® (in US dollar) will earn one Rewards point plus an additional two Rewards points for every US$0.60 spent.

3.3 The two additional Rewards points are not applicable for transactions made on tax payment, cash advances, finance charges and adjustments.

3.4 The additional Rewards points earned will be credited into Cardholder's Premier MasterCard® credit card account within three working days from the date when transactions are posted into HSBC's credit card systems.

3.5 HSBC reserves the right to vary the terms of or withdraw the Premier Triple Rewards Programme at any time without notice.

4.  Redemption of Points

4.1 All redemptions are subject to the accumulation of sufficient Points and final acceptance by HSBC. Redemptions will be cancelled automatically in the event of insufficient Points.

4.2 Allow approximately five working days for the processing of a redemption made through phone or internet redemption channel.

4.3 Phone or internet redemptions received under the Rewards will be sent to Cardholders via mail in the form of a pressure sealed voucher (“Voucher”). Cardholders must present the original Voucher at the merchants’ outlets.

4.4 Cardholders are required to sign on the Vouchers before redemption. Vouchers must be presented prior to making payment or quoted when making reservations.

4.5 Cardholders may transfer their Vouchers to third parties but must complete the Voucher with their credit card number and signature. This shall be binding as authorisation.

4.6 Once a redemption has been accepted by HSBC, it cannot be cancelled or exchanged by the Cardholder. There will be no replacement of lost, defaced, torn, damaged or stolen Voucher(s).

4.7 All Vouchers issued by HSBC are valid for three months from the date of issue, unless otherwise specified. No extensions on the validity of Vouchers will be entertained.

4.8 Vouchers are not to be used in conjunction with other VIP/ membership privileges, promotions or discounts and cannot be used to purchase gift vouchers of the respective merchants unless otherwise specified. Use of the Vouchers will be subject to the terms and conditions of the respective merchants.

4.9 All vouchers redeemable at dining establishments are valid for dine-in only, unless otherwise specified.

4.10 There is no minimum purchase required for the use of the Vouchers unless otherwise stated. Any unused value of the Vouchers will not be refunded. Multiple Vouchers may be used unless otherwise specified.

4.11 Charges exceeding the value stated on the Voucher should be settled using HSBC credit cards.

4.12 All Rewards Vouchers that have been redeemed by the Cardholders are not refundable and not exchangeable for cash, Points or another Reward.

4.13 Rewards items featured in this catalogue are valid from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009, and are only available while stocks last. Replacement of Rewards items will be solely at the discretion of HSBC and may be made without notice.

4.14 Redemption of Points for cash credit can be used to offset any outstanding payments due or future purchases and cannot be exchanged for cash. The cash credits redeemed through the Programme will be reflected in the credit card account statement and is not to be taken as a payment in reduction of the minimum payment due.

4.15 Cardholders must notify HSBC of their intention to use their Points to off-set their credit card annual fee before receiving notification of payment for the annual fee.

5. SMS Instant Rewards Redemption

5.1 SMS Instant Rewards Redemption service is only applicable to selected merchant partners with Reward items available for this redemption channel. Please refer to the rewards catalogue or www.hsbc.com.sg for list of Reward items and applicable codes available for SMS Instant Rewards Redemption.

5.2 SMS Instant Rewards Redemption service is applicable only for SMSes sent within Singapore. This service is not valid for SMS sent via overseas mobile numbers.

5.3 To redeem via SMS, Cardholder must SMS to 9184 2000 in the following format: REWARD<space>redemption code<space>16-digit HSBC credit card number<space>quantity required.

5.4 Cardholders can make multiple redemptions, of maximum quantity of five redemptions, of the same item redemption code in a single SMS via the SMS Instant Rewards Redemption, unless otherwise specified. 

5.5 Cardholder will receive an acknowledgement SMS confirming his/ her redemption.

5.6 All acknowledgement SMSes issued by HSBC are valid for two weeks from the date of issue, unless otherwise specified. No extensions on the validity of acknowledgement SMSes will be entertained.

5.7 There will be no replacement SMS for any deleted SMS response to the Cardholder.

5.8 SMSes are not transferable to other Cardholders. Cardholders will be liable if SMS authentication code is misused by another party.

5.9 Sending and receiving of SMSes are teleco-dependent. HSBC will not accept any responsibility for non-receipt of SMS.

5.10 For multiple rewards redemptions made within the 24 hours through multiple redemption channels, in the event of insufficient points, SMS Instant Rewards Redemption will take priority over redemptions made though phone and/ or internet.

6.  Mileage Programme

6.1 Only Cardholders who are eligible for the Programme are eligible for the Mileage programme. To participate in the Mileage programme, Cardholders must first enrol or already be enrolled with a participating airline’s frequent flyer programme. They must also complete and return the Mileage Programme Enrolment Form to HSBC.

6.2 An annual fee of S$40 or US$24 (subject to GST) is respectively payable by every primary Cardholder or primary US dollars Cardholder who successfully enrols in the Mileage programme.

6.3 Upon successful enrolment, fees will be automatically debited from the primary Cardholders’ account when due annually and are not refundable. Cardholders who wish to utilise their Points towards payment of annual fees must redeem their points one month prior to the payment due date, in accordance with the prevailing conditions for redemption.

6.4 For subsequent years of the Mileage Programme annual enrolment fee, Cardholders who wish to utilise their Points towards payment of annual fees must redeem their points one month prior to the payment due date, in accordance with the prevailing conditions for redemption. Or cancellation of their Mileage programme enrolment must also be done one month prior to the payment annual due date, otherwise fees will be automatically debited from the primary Cardholders’ account.

6.5 Only enrolled Cardholders whose credit card accounts are valid and in good standing will be eligible to transfer their Rewards points to a participating airline’s frequent flyer programme account.

6.6 Cardholders must transfer in block of 2,500 Points from their account(s) each time a transfer is made to any participating airline’s frequent flyer programme.

6.7 Points must be transferred from the Cardholder’s account into their own frequent flyer programme account with the participating airlines.

6.8 Once the redemption for mileage has been accepted by HSBC, it cannot be cancelled, reversed back to the Cardholder’s credit card or transferred to another participating airline’s frequent flyer programme account.

6.9 Points must be transferred to a participating airline’s frequent flyer programme account prior to their expiry date as notified by HSBC from time to time.

6.10 HSBC’s credit card travel insurance and benefits will not apply to flights taken with award tickets issued under a participating airline’s frequent flyer programme.

6.11 Approximately three weeks should be allowed to process the transfer of miles. Strictly no urgent requests for transfers or cancellation will be entertained.

6.12 HSBC is not responsible for any fraudulent or unsuccessful transfer. In the case of an unsuccessful transfer, the Cardholder’s Rewards points will be reinstated to his card account.

6.13 Cardholders are subject to and must comply with the terms and conditions of the frequent flyer programme(s) of the participating airline(s) in which they are enrolled.

6.14 All questions or disputes regarding eligibility for enrolment in the Mileage Programme or transferring Points under the Mileage Programme will be decided by HSBC at its sole discretion.

6.15 A participating airline may change its programme terms and conditions including regulations, policies, benefits, conditions of participating or mileage levels, in whole or in part at any time with or without notice, even though such changes may affect the value of the mileage already accumulated.

6.16 Should the participation of any airline in the Mileage Programme be terminated for any reason whatsoever, Cardholders who have not successfully transferred their Points to the participating airline’s frequent flyer programme account may use their Points to redeem other items extended by HSBC under its Programme, subject to prevailing terms and conditions of the said programme.

7.  General Conditions

7.1 HSBC is not a supplier of the Rewards items redeemed with the Vouchers and will not accept any liability in relation thereto.

7.2 HSBC shall not be responsible for injury, pain, loss or damages suffered by any Cardholder in connection with any of the items redeemed through the Programme or the participating airline(s) frequent flyer programme(s).

7.3 HSBC’s credit card travel insurance and benefits will not apply to flights or travel packages purchased using only travel vouchers redeemed under this Programme.

7.4 Fraud and abuse relating to the earning of Points or redemptions may result in the forfeiture of accrued Points as well as the cancellation of the Cardholder’s credit cards.

7.5 Cardholders, who redeem any of the Rewards item featured in this catalogue, are customers of the vendor and shall direct any queries or complaints pertaining to such Rewards items to the vendors. HSBC shall not in any way be responsible for dealing with such queries or complaints.

7.6 Without prejudice to any of the bank’s rights and remedies, HSBC is entitled, at any time, in its absolute discretion and without giving any reason or notice, terminate the programme or withdraw, cancel or invalidate any Rewards items and/ or HSBC Rewards points already issued.

7.7 HSBC is not liable if it is unable to perform its obligations under these terms and conditions, due directly or indirectly to the failure of any machine or communication system, industrial dispute, war, Act of God, or anything outside the control of the bank or its servants or agents. HSBC shall not be responsible for any delay in the transmission to the bank of evidence of retail purchases by the participating merchants or any other third party.

7.8 HSBC reserves the right to vary, delete or add to any of these terms and conditions and the Points required for redemption at any time at its discretion without notice. For the latest details and information, visit www.hsbc.com.sg.

7.9 HSBC’s decision on all matters relating to the Rewards is final and binding on the Cardholder.
