Personal Internet Banking Security Device

Your secure device for HSBC Internet Banking

Overview

At HSBC, we are continuously looking for better ways to ensure maximum online security. From 6 August 2006, we will be introducing an additional level of authentication in the form of a handy Security Device for our online@hsbc customers.

We will be providing more information to our online@hsbc customers via postal mail from July 2006.

Security Device

A Security Device is a small, key-ring size, digital generator provided to Personal Internet Banking customers. From 6 August 2006, you will need to use the Security Device to generate Security Codes, which are required when you logon and transact on online@hsbc.

The security device will replace the current existing Personal Security Code (PSC) from 6 August 2006.

Enhanced Security Features

  • The Security Device is small, light and portable. It can be used on any Internet-enabled PC. It does not require downloads, set-ups, system adjustments, etc.
  • The Security Device itself generates the Security Code. The Security Code constantly changes and is unique to your Security Device. As there is no dependency on a third party for security code generation, our customers do not need to rely on another party's service standard to access Internet banking.
  • The generation of the Security Code is not dependent on capacity issues, signal availability or the geographical location of our customers.
  • There will be no delay in the receiving of Security Codes due to mobile network congestion or security codes not received because of the maximum SMS limit received.
  • The Security Device will be free from unnecessary alarms from phone virus and hacking.
  • The Security Device also possesses more complex algorithms, which provides higher level of protection from large variety of online attacks.
