Why you might choose Singapore

Thinking of moving to Singapore? You might decide to live, work or study here because:

  • It’s close to India
  • It offers a great quality of life and world-class healthcare facilities
  • It can provide your children with excellent education
  • It has well structured immigration requirements
  • It already has a large Indian community

Singapore also appeals to many for investments and international banking. This makes it one of the leading financial hubs in Asia and a prime location for offshore wealth management.

Make NRI remittances

Our 2021 Global Indian Pulse report (PDF) shows that 40% of Indians living abroad in Singapore send money back home. These funds could be used to buy property, pay for family expenses or your children's education. So it's vital that you can make transfers in a fast and cost-effective way.

HSBC Global Money Transfers service lets you send money fast and fee-free[@fx-global-transfer-fees] with just a few taps on the HSBC Singapore app. Use it to send money to:

  • Over 100 destinations in 60+ currencies (including INR to India)
  • Over 200 destinations via SWIFT
  • Third-party HSBC accounts instantly[@sg-gvgt-instant-transfers]

Take your international credit history with you

When you apply for an HSBC credit card in Singapore, you can let us use your credit history in India. Simply give us your information and consent so we can understand you better and provide you with a more appropriate credit limit. You can also get a free copy of your credit report.

Remittance notice for Resident Indians

Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), all resident Indians – including minors – can freely remit up to USD250,000 each financial year (April to March). This applies to remittances from India to any permissible current or capital account, or a mix of both.

This can be done for reasons that include:

  • A child's education
  • Opening a foreign currency account abroad
  • Buying property overseas
  • Making foreign investments
  • Maintaining close relatives
